Description:
This is a trail running weekend over three days and comprising three different distances (one per day): • Friday Sept 22: 50km race using Boy Scout, Elkhorn, Mount Margaret & Lady Moon Trails, in addition to a 1.5 mile stretch of CR 68C between the Boy Scout Ranch & Elkhorn Trailhead. • Saturday Sept 23: 50 mile race using all trails noted above with the exception of Mount Margaret and with inclusion of the Lone Pine/Killpecker network. In addition, the route will use Forest Service Roads 517, 168, 86 and Swamp Cutoff (171a); and County Road 69 (2.5 miles). • Sunday Sept 24: Half Marathon using Elkhorn & Lady Moon Trails, in addition to a 1.5 mile stretch of CR 68C between the Boy Scout Ranch & Elkhorn Trailhead. The 50km will have a single crossing of CR 68c at mile 6 of the race. This will occur by an aid station location with crossing marshals in place to ensure runner safety. There will be an additional road crossing of CR 74e at miles 19 & 25 of the race between the Mount Margaret and Lady Moon Trailheads. Again this will be near the site of an aid station, with race volunteers assigned to marshal the road crossing. In both cases, runners will be held until the right of way is clear.Vehicles will not be held. 'Special Event Ahead' signage will be placed before and after this runner on road section The 50km will finish with 1.5 miles on CR 68c between the Elkhorn Trailhead and Ben Delatour Scout Ranch (BDSR). 'Special Event Ahead' signage will be placed before and after this runner on road section. A marshal will be in place to aid runners crossing back onto the BDSR property. The half marathon will begin and end with 1.5 miles between the BDSR property and Elkhorn Trailhead. The same safety measures will be in place as noted above. CR 68c is a low volume, low speed road and we do not anticipate the need for any type of road closure or changes to regular traffic patterns. The 50 mile race will include a half mile section on CR 69 (Manhattan Rd) between the Molly Lake Trailhead & FS 517, in addition to a 2 mile section between FS 171a & FS 168 in the Goddell Corner area. These stretches occur later in the race at mile 18 (half mile) and mile 45, with runners very well spread out. The same safety measures will be in place as noted above. Parking will be on site at Ben Delatour Scout Ranch. Sanitation will be provided by a third party sanitation contractor. Aid stations as noted on the attached race maps will be staffed by at least one EMT, one radio operator in addition to regular aid station volunteers. Communications will be via HAM radio with a central command at the race start/finish. The start/finish medical tent will be staffed by a paramedic with communications to all aid station locations via the HAM network. The 50km has an 11 hour cut-off with intermediate aid station cuts along the way. Final runner will be no later than 6:00pm. The 50 mile race has a 14 hour cutoff with intermediate aid station cuts along the way. Final runner will be no later than 8:00pm.

Comments: Please send your route maps in kml format to Michelle Jenkins at mjenkins@larimer.org. 06/21/2023. I do not believe we ever received the maps as requested in June. Due to staffing issues and the event timing we reviewed the maps attached to the event the best we could and will approve it this time. Next time we will need the maps in the format requested.Flood - Larimer County

Comments: Since runners are to be help at road crossings, I'm good with race marshalls monitoring the roadway. You may consider having Larimer County Emergency Services or Search & Rescue present in case of lost, injured, or weather emergencies arise.Final Disposition
