Description:
The Horsetooth Open Water Swims event has been held annually for over 20 years, now the Sunday after Labor Day. The Horsetooth Open Water Swims is a 501 (3)(c) organization and the races benefit local charities. The races consist of the main race, a 10k swim starting at Satanka Cove and ending at South Bay. At the South Bay there are 2.4 mile, 1.2 mile, 1000m kids swim and collegiate team races. The 10k swim is limited to approximately 100 participants. Each swimmer will be accompanied by a paddler for safety and feeding. The course is along the west side of the reservoir and swimmers will remain within 50 yds of the shore (see enclosed course map). We will need rangers to monitor the outlet at the marina bay for boat traffic and safety. Swim cut-off time for the 10K is at 12 pm. The 10K swimmers and paddlers will park in the Holiday Twin Drive-In theater parking. Boats and paddlers will be transported by bus to the start at Satanka Bay. The gate to Satanka Boat Ramp will need to be opened by 5 am, so a boat inspector or Ranger will need to be scheduled. We will pay the fee for the boat inspectors to arrive at 5 am at both the south and north end of the reservoir. The other, shorter swims are conducted at the South End of the reservoir. Races start at 7 am. We will need to reserve the South Bay Pavilion from 6 am to 2 pm day of race and all associated parking. Horsetooth Swims volunteers will conduct parking as defined in past years events. Please reserve the South Bay Parking Area until noon. Ranger presence to direct boat traffic to the east side of South Bay and away from the swim courses would be highly appreciated. We will need the gate unlocked at the South End by 5 am and a boat inspector available. Safety boats and boats to put out the swim buoys will be putting in at the south boat ramps at that time. The night before the races, at the south end, we will need the light boxes left unlocked, the bathrooms locked (we supply porta-potties) and the bollards removed for vehicle access to the water. An
