Description:
This will be our 27th Annual Catch A Special Thrill event (co-hosted with Larimer County) and we will be taking disabled/disadvantaged children out in boats for a fun filled day of fishing and celebration of these young heroes, and a little help for their 24/7 caregivers. We begin the day with a continental breakfast, register each child, give them their equipment that they will need and keep for their very own. They are then fitted with PFD and go out with an experienced boater for a morning of fun and adventure on the water! After a big barbeque luncheon each child is recognized on stage, given a plaque and other prizes. EMTs are staged close by at the South Bay Pavillion. Radio contact is done with Hamm Radio operators and LC Parks 2. Rangers oversee the safety of our group and we have plenty of staff to direct traffic at the ramp. Food is catered by Nordy's Barbeque and clean up is completed by 1:30. A boater safety meeting is held prior to loading, and at least one parent or guardian rides with the child. Young anglers from our Youth Club help shore fishing and on pontoons where needed. This is such a great event and we are very proud to co-host with Larimer County!

Additional Information Submitted by Applicant

1. Date Submitted: 01/04/2023
As aforementioned in "Description of Event", our Emergency Plan includes an ambulance on standby at the swim beach parking lot where we will be holding our event. We also have about 4 EMT's volunteering that day for "On The Water" emergencies. All communications will be channeled through six (6) Ham radio operators, and also direct contact with LC Rangers on Parks 2. Mr. Dan Rieves should be in attendance and would take command should we have an emergency. There should be no need for additional staff although we have plenty of Rangers helping with the event and Park Aid 1 helping direct traffic at the ramp while four of our other volunteers direct traffic elsewhere at South Bay. This event normally has little or no other impact on the other visitors as we launch early on and come off the water before noon. We will have Participant Parking at the Swim Beach parking lot. Our boats will be parking in the Upper Parking Lot at South Bay, where we have Staff staged to direct parking through the day with help from the Ham Radio Club. The only real displacement of the General Public would be the Pavilion which we will only need until 2:00 p.m. and will make it ready after that time. The participants and volunteers will park in the Swim Beach area, and overflow parking for volunteers will be at South Bay parking lots.(see map). One (1) Port-A-Potty will be placed in the Upper Parking lot for the Boater Volunteers while they await being loaded with participants.

It is always recommended to have extra portable facilities available at the start/finish area of events, and where food service will occur. At least one ADA compliant toilet must be provided.
