Description:
We are looking to hold a catch, photo, and immediate release black bass tournament on Horsetooth on the 15th of July. We are a 501c7 organization raising money this year for Roman's Warrior Foundation to aid them with taking military and first responders on therapeutic outdoor adventures. Last year we raised over $7400 for Denver Boys and Girls Clubs through our tournament entry fees and memberships.
We are strictly kayaks and do not use motors or livewells so we do not require ANS inspections for our anglers nor do we cause additional congestion/conflicts at the ramps, even if there is a concurrent boat tournament. We typically have a mix of where people launch from so there isn't much parking congestion caused by our competitors. They are required to wear a USCG approved PFD at all times, and we have emergency contacts for them should anything happen that day. We also can see that all anglers safely checked off the water in the afternoon via our TourneyX App.
Our award ceremony takes place off site so we do not need any kind of picnic area or pavilion that day and will be off the water by 3pm. We use a catch, photo, and release format which means that our fish will all be released immediately and there is no weigh-in at the end of the competition. This reduces stress on the fishery and there is much less livewell induced trauma on the bass that we catch. Even our bycatch (walleye and trout) are required to be released immediately.
Lastly, we are a Kayak Bass Fishing Affiliate Club. This puts us under their insurance window with NATA and gives us a $1Million per occurrence insurance coverage for our tournaments with no aggregate limit. We have made our applications to get certificates for 2023, but they have not come in yet. We are hoping for tentative approval and then to be finalized once their administration sends out certs, much like CPW has done with us.
