Description:
2023 Ride the Rockies
Route description and highlights
All rides leave with a scheduled police escort roll-out
Prologue: Saturday
Ft. Collins – 47 mile loop
Ft. Collins is a cyclist heaven, rolling hills, quiet farm roads and amazing food and fun!
The ride starts at our host venue just north of downtown Ft. Collins and heads north on county roads by several small lakes. The first 20 miles riders will gradually climb 800’ until they reach HWY 287. The next 10 miles drops most of the gained elevation until the route meets the small town of Bellview, then has two punchy climbs that ride past scenic Horsetooth Reservoir. The last 8 miles are downhill, back to the host venue.
Stage 1: Sunday
Ft. Collins to Estes Park – 47 miles
And it begins! Day 1
The ride heads southwest into the mountains to Big Thompson Canyon (US-34). Big Thompson is an iconic and scenic ride with big canyon walls that follow the Big Thompson River. The route up Big Thompson has an average 2.6% grade. Riders will leave the canyon at Drake and follow CO 43 until the road crests at the overlook into Estes Park at the Glenhaven community. 7 miles downhill into Estes Park and the warm welcome that only Estes Park can provide.
