Description:
2023 Ride the Rockies
Route description and highlights
All rides leave with a scheduled police escort roll-out

Prologue: Saturday
Ft. Collins – 47 mile loop
Ft. Collins is a cyclist heaven, rolling hills, quiet farm roads and amazing food and fun!
The ride starts at our host venue just north of downtown Ft. Collins and heads north on county roads by several small lakes. The first 20 miles riders will gradually climb 800’ until they reach HWY 287. The next 10 miles drops most of the gained elevation until the route meets the small town of Bellview, then has two punchy climbs that ride past scenic Horsetooth Reservoir. The last 8 miles are downhill, back to the host venue.

Stage 1: Sunday
Ft. Collins to Estes Park – 47 miles
And it begins! Day 1
The ride heads southwest into the mountains to Big Thompson Canyon (US-34). Big Thompson is an iconic and scenic ride with big canyon walls that follow the Big Thompson River. The route up Big Thompson has an average 2.6% grade. Riders will leave the canyon at Drake and follow CO 43 until the road crests at the overlook into Estes Park at the Glenhaven community. 7 miles downhill into Estes Park and the warm welcome that only Estes Park can provide.

Special Events permit application #6100 for MacGregor Ranch events has already been approved by Building Division. Please provide information and Site Map of all proposed facilities and activities on Macgregor Ranch, which is in unincorporated Larimer County, so we may determine building permit requirements if any. Flood - Larimer County

Status: Approved

Comments: This event will be taking place in high-risk flood areas, the Big Thompson Canyon and the North Fork of the Big Thompson drainage area. The event coordinators should carefully monitor the weather in these areas on the day of the ride for potential rain events. There should be an emergency notification system to receive and disseminate emergency notifications. In addition, an emergency plan should be in place in the case of a flood event. The event coordinators should work with Larimer County Emergency Management to develop the emergency plan. The riders should also be aware of the potential flooding dangers in these areas.
