Description:
We would like to host a trail ride in memory of Clyde Al Maxey who passed away in 2018. Al worked for the parks service and raised appaloosa his whole life- we continue to educate others not only about this breed but the beautiful heritage of the west.
This ride would consist of less than 20 horse and rider pairs, riding either alone or in pairs, down a dedicated trail to complete a loop of 8-10 miles. We will have a veterinarian and/or judge stationed part way to perform an assessment of soundness/health and take the vitals of the participants. We also may station judges at a particularly difficult section of trail to score how they cross that 'obstacle'- be it a steep few steps, a rocky section, or a bridge. We take horse health and rider safety to be paramount to our sport.
At the trail head we would have a table for riders to sign in and out at, notecards will be scored for feedback to the riders, and a safety briefing before/after the ride.
We will not need sole access- we are happy to share the trail! We want equestrians to be viewed as friendly co-users and share the wonderful space.
No food or beverages will be served except bottled water will be available for all participants. We are committed to packing out the recycling from those. All manure produced at trail head will be pitchforked into a receptacle and removed from the space.
