Description:
I would like to conduct trapping for midges, the insect vector for BTV and EHDV, which affect domestic and wild ruminants. The traps to catch the midges are small, about the size of a shoebox, and are baited with dry ice (to release C02 as an attractant) and with light. Traps will run from dusk until dawn the following morning. Midges will fly toward the attractant and then be pulled by a fan generated downdraft into a small bag. I would set 2-4 traps at each location, along wit a motion-triggered camera trap to capture abundance activity of hosts that the midges feed on. Traps would be affixed to natural structures if available, or to t-posts if not. The insect trapping would only need to be conducted around 4 nights between June and late August, but I hope to have the camera traps collecting data throughout the season. I can remove the midge traps when they are not in use as to cause minimal disturbance. Ideal trapping locations would be near water and/or known habitat for wildlife hosts. I am open to any of the parks or open spaces listed, I just selected the ones that seemed like they might have most suitable habitat. Thanks for your consideration, and please contact me at (845) 206-5975 or cbarbera@nd.edu with any questions!

Additional Information Submitted by Applicant

1. Date Submitted: 04/21/2021
I've been told there's already a insurance document on file between CSU and Larimer County. If we could use that that would be great! If not I can reach out to my collaborators.

2. Date Submitted: 04/27/2021
I would like to change the end date to 7/31/2021 in order to fall under the current COI from CSU.
