Renewal for 2019 special event 4551
Each year since 2009, I have surveyed for the emergence of Platypedia putnami (a cicada) along the hiking trail to Horsetooth Falls and back. A survey is completed by walking the trail, counting and collecting the cicada exuvia (shed skins). Total number, date, location and sex for each exuvia is recorded, and the exuvia is saved for deposition at CSU Gillette Museum of Arthropod Diversity. In addition, up to 100 other insects desired by the museum will be collected and preserved for deposition at the museum. No off trail access is needed or collecting equipment used, such at nets. Reports will be provided, as requested.
Here are the mega data on exuvia found each year:
2009- 136 exuvia
I request exemption from fee and insurance requirements, as I am the sole participant and walking trails as any other public participant walking on the trails.
