Description:
The City of Fort Collins Adaptive Recreation Opportunities (ARO) program/ Paralympic Sport Club-Fort Collins will host a 2nd Adaptive Watersport Event for people with disabilities, ages 12+, veterans and their families. ARO is collaborating, once again, with a non- profit agency to provide adaptive equipment and expertise; Adaptive Adventures Inc. will be bringing trained staff, adaptive kayaks and stand up paddleboards. They will be transporting their own equipment and providing their individual waivers that will be signed by all participants using their equipment. Participants will register through the ARO program, and also sign the City’s waiver forms. Approximately 35 participants with physical disabilities, disabled veterans and family members will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of outdoor activities with the support of adaptive equipment and knowledgeable staff. The safety and communications plan will include onsite EMS staff, 2 lifeguards, one on a motorized safety boat and another lifeguard on the water using sit on top kayak. (see attached plan) We will be providing a light meal and relaxing at the spectacular and accessible Horsetooth Reservoir South Bay Pavilion. This accessible pavilion and restroom facility with access to the water to launch the boats is perfect for this event and has become a highlight for all of our participants and their families!
