Status: ApprovedComments: At the time of application the race organizer must supply the EPPD with a map, with mile markers and aid stations marked. They must also provide a fact sheet that includes the start times and locations for each race. Two weeks prior to the race the updated versions must be submitted to the EPPD. Their 2018 application said the race started at 0800 and ended at 1700. EPPD was told the marathon and half-marathon were starting at 0600 when in fact, the half started at 0700.
For the safety of the runners the race must have a person designated to listen to all race radio traffic to answer and address all issues on the radio. The race course director and the race director or his/her designee must have a radio and listen to and respond to issues on the radio. 2018 the race course director did not have a radio and radio traffic was repeatedly ignored by the race director. This is a safety concern.
Larimer County, State Patrol, the Estes Valley Recreation & Park District (EVRPD) and possibly US Bureau of Reclamation approval will be needed. Obtain a Larimer County Event Permit: larimer.org/specialevent The organizers must get Estes Valley Recreation and Park District approval for the use of the lake trail. Ask them not to rent the wide four seat bicycles during the race.
The race organizer must supply the traffic control devices, set them in place for the race and take them down as soon as practical after the last athlete has passed. Once the traffic officer arrives at 34/Dry Gulch have your crew set up the cone pattern. Do not set up the pattern without the officer present.
No cones may be placed on any roadway without prior law enforcement approval. Cones cannot be placed along Dry Gulch, Devil’s Gulch or Fish Creek Rd. They push vehicles into head-on collisions.
The race organizer must put up signs at least 18” x 24”, in large clear print readable from 50’, five to seven days in advance of the event warning citizens of the upcoming event date and times. The signs must be placed on every Stop and Yield sign at every intersection along the race course. The number of participants in this event cause traffic congestion. The public must be warned in advance.
On Race Day
Large signs on any blind curves and on Devil’s Gulch Rd at Co Rd 61 (H Bar G Rd). The large signs warn drivers.
Runners must run facing traffic on the left side of the road unless otherwise approved.
Approved exceptions are: Hwy 7; Fish Creek Way to Cheley road; Steamer Pkwy; Lake Shore Dr and Carriage Dr to Larkspur Dr.
Race marshals or signs must be used to direct the runners on the course. (Runners prefer race marshals.)

It is understood that aid stations will be limited to commercial-sourced energy consumables as well as energy drinks and water. Please ensure water is sourced from a municipal source and beverage dispensing containers are clean and sanitized prior to filling.

Status: ApprovedComments: Since this event occurs on a weekend day, it does not conflict with any currently planned or scheduled road maintenance or construction activities. However, portions of the route(s) are included in our current year’s surface maintenance program areas for asphalt pavement overlay, chip seal, sealcoat and/or shouldering operations. These processes may be underway immediately prior to the event. We are unable to guarantee that participants will entirely avoid traversing surfaces that have recently been treated. For purposes of coordination, the event promoter must contact Jerry Macklberg,, Materials Manager, at 970-498-5662 at least thirty (30) days before the event. Event promoters are reminded that they are not to post event signs on traffic sign posts within the public road Right-Of-Way or paint on the surface of the road.
