Minutes stand as presented.

Ellen introduced the new Council members, Elaine Boni, Diane Morgas, Rhonda Racicot and Briauna Souders.

Ellen reported that the Committee is working on creating a document describing the latest legislative session outcomes.

Ruth Long announced that the LCOA will be hiring an Information & Referral (I & R) Specialist.  This person will answer the main phone number, 498-7750.  It became clear from our marketing analysis that the public doesn’t like our phone tree.  Also, the number of calls coming into our office has increased over 1,000 calls during the last year.  Since we do not know if the state funding increase will be permanent, the position will be limited-term.

Staff Reports:

Katy Mason stated that the Office on Aging has a new logo:

Katy distributed a flyer on behalf of David Born about the Estes Park Breakfast.

Katy reported the Office on Aging and the League of Women Voters is sponsoring the 3rd Annual Celebration for Medicare’s Birthday.  Volunteers are needed to man a booth at the farmers market on Saturday, July 27 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  The farmers market is located in the parking lot at Civic Center.  Briauna Souders volunteered for the Medicare booth.  Another event that is in need of volunteers is the Senior Expo in Estes Park.  However, the event is scheduled for the same day as Bridging the Gap on September 18.  David Born has volunteered to man the booth.

Katy distributed a sign-up for Advisory Council committees.  She reminded the members that they do not have to be on the same committee as last year unless they want to.  Committee’s will elect chairs at their next meeting.

Sharon Courtney gave a brief biography.

Community Education & Information Committee

Katie Stieber reported that the Committee is reviewing its 2013-2014 goals.  Currently, the members are reading through the marketing analysis.  The Committee is discussing the Senior Awards Celebration in May 2014.

Grantee Management & Evaluation Committee

No report given.

Public Policy & Advocacy Committee

Helen Davis reported that the Committee is planning a forum in Fort Collins and Estes Park on the Affordable Care Act.  Helen announced that Steve Johnson will attend the August 16 meeting.  Anyone on the Council is welcome to attend.

Bridging the Gap Planning Committee

Jay Adams reported that this year’s presentation will be by the filmmakers of the “Age of Champions”, an award-winning documentary on the Senior Olympics.  The Office on Aging will sponsor the presentation.  This year’s event will be at the Hilton on Prospect on September 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  The Office on Aging will pay the Council members fee.  We will be asking for table host volunteers.

Fort Collins Senior Advisory Board Report (SAB)

Kate Pullen reported that they had Craig Forman and Lisa Poppaw as guests at the last Board meeting.  The SAB has new board members and is working to get them acclimated.  The SAB may change the format of its meetings.

Loveland Senior Advisory Board (SAB)

Earl Stevens reported that the SAB is reviewing its goals and website.  The website is designed to hold all the SAB’s minutes and documents.

Foundation on Aging (FOA)

Mary Shultz reported on the Summit on Aging.  The FOA will be working on developing MOUs with the organizations involved.

Human Relations Commission (HRC)

Myles Crane reported that in support of the HRC’s 2013 educational outreach goal, HRC members are attending a mental health training program sponsored by Touchstone Health Partners on July 25 and 29 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.   The HRC will be planning a public conversation with CSU Center for Public Deliberation about mental illness.

Ellen adjourned the meeting at 3:04 p.m.
