I. Gail Meisner called the meeting to order at 12:39 p.m.
II. The March 9, 2011 AAB Meeting Minutes were reviewed and approved.
III. Martha Sullins, Colorado State University Extension Regional Specialists, Ag. and Business Management, described the CSU Extension Colorado Building Farmers program. The goal of the program is to build farmer capacity exploring the resources available and to build networking. Larimer County Extension will hold its first classes in the fall. Martha asked if anyone on the AAB would be interested in serving on an advisory committee to help guide the program. Curtis Bridges expressed an interest.
IV. Lew Grant presented the power point the Land Preservation Committee worked on. He asked for comments, corrections, and feed back from the board. There were a number of excellent suggestions made, and Lew made notes to make the amendments to the presentation. The important take home message from the presentation is that prim agricultural land cannot exist without productive soils and water.
V. Linda Hoffman updated the Board on the land use code changes. There will be a hearing before the Planning Commission on May 18, 2011.
VI. George Wallace reported on water related events and the presentations by the Water Availability Committee. Presentations were given to the North Poudre Irrigation Company Annual Meeting and “The Poudre Runs Through It” forum. They have been invited to the City of Fort Collins Water Board meeting on May 11, 2011.
Eric Wilkinson and Carl Brouwer attended the meeting to be on hand to answer questions on the Northern Irrigated Supply Project (NISP) revised draft EIS. The AAB invited Eric and Carl to present the issues surrounding NISP at the July meeting.
VII. LuAnn Goodyear reported on behalf of the Public Education Committee. The April 9, 2011, Growing Your Future in Larimer County seminar was cancelled due to low registration numbers. The Board members were complimented on the work they put into the presentations they were going to give at the April conference.
LuAnn reported the Larimer County parade would be held on July 30, 2011 in Loveland, Colorado. The theme is “home grown”. LuAnn asked if there would be an interest by the AAB to have a float in the parade. It was suggested the theme for the float should revolve around education of agriculture in Larimer County. Suggestions were made from the committee and LuAnn will follow-up.
- There will be a social and tour of Bee Family Centennial Farm on June 11, 2011 beginning with a 5:00 pot luck dinner.
- Karen agreed to look into the AAB having a booth at the Larimer County Fair.
- Linda Hoffman handed out nametags to the AAB members.
IX. The next AAB meeting will be held on July 13, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. at the CSU Larimer County Extension office.
X. The meeting was adjourned at 3:28 p.m.
