Discussion Items:

Rooftop Solar Panels.  Stacey Baumgarn let a tour of the rooftop solar panels for the Advisory Board.  The panels were installed on the roof of the Courthouse Office Building this year and became operational in June.  The system includes 138 panels in two banks and is designed to produce 39,000 KWh per year.  That power production is equivalent to 60,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions from traditional fossil fuel production.  The project funding includes Federal grant monies from two grant programs (EECBG & RDSI).

Energy Conservation Update.  Stacey Baumgarn provided an update on the status of energy related projects that the County is working on through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program.  Eight projects are included in the grant:

1.   The solar rooftop panels described above.

2.   Computer server virtualization completed in early 2010.

3.   Adoption of a voluntary green building code (in coordination with the City of Fort Collins).

4.   A greenhouse gas emissions inventory for County programs and buildings (under contract with the Brendle Group).

5.   Purchase of a Portfolio Manager software tool to allow benchmark of energy use in County buildings

6.   Purchase of an energy management software tool to coordinate energy purchases across 42 energy vendors.

7.   Launch of the ACES (accountability – conservation – empowerment – stewardship) employee energy use challenge beginning on November 1.

8.   Development and approval of an Energy Policy and related Energy Action Plan (to be completed by the end of 2010).

Environmental Stewardship Awards:  The EAB Stewardship Awards Committee met on September 29 to consider initial recommendations for this year’s stewardship award nominations.  Fourteen nominations for twelve potential recipients were received this year. Committee members Jarrett Tishmack, Jennifer Lee and Ryan McShane led a discussion with the full EAB about all the nominations.  At the conclusion of the discussion, the consensus of the members present was to recommend a top tier of two nominations, and a middle tier of three for consideration by the County Commissioners.  Doug Ryan will meet with the Commissioners to outline the EAB recommendations.  Mr. Ryan noted that as in the past all 14 nominations will be presented to the Commissioners.

EAB Issue Index:

Doug Ryan will update the Issue Index related to the topics discussed at the meeting.

The meeting ended at 9:00 PM
